Summer Dress Sewalong - Planning

If you haven't started thinking about a dress you'll make for the Summer Dress Sewalong, don't worry, there's still plenty of time. I'm heading off to Joann's in a little while to take advantage of their sale on Simplicity patterns (5 for $5). On my wish list is:

Simplicity 2584. I've already seen a couple of these made up in solid colors and they're just gorgeous (see here and here). I love the neckline detail.

Simplicity 2586. This looks like a very basic design, but I think the quilted trim on View C is an interesting detail.

Simplicity 2702. I was sold on this dress when I saw it featured in the latest Threads magazine.

New Look 6457. I bought some fabric a few months ago with this style in mind. More on that later though!

Although it's a long weekend, I don't think I'll have a lot of opportunity to get a lot of sewing done. Weekends tend to fill up so fast! I'm hoping to finish one dress that I started earlier this week just in time for a Memorial day bbq on Monday. What are your weekend or sewing plans?

  2. I just got those Cynthia Rowley patterns yesterday! I actually went a little nuts on Simplicity patterns...

My goal is to have a dress (actually 2, but maybe I'm dreaming) made up by the end of this weekend.

  3. Okay, thanks to your post, I got all three Cynthia Rowley patterns today. I've only made one dress ever and that was at least 6 or 7 years ago, so this truly will be kind of a first for me. I think I'll be starting with the 2584 pattern...

Thanks for the little "push" to get us all going on this! :)

  5. I really want to make a dress for me, but it seems I'm stuck on sewing summer clothes for my kiddos.

  7. Love your pattern choices... I made the same choices on several of them. I will however have to lengthen the Cynthia Rowley patterns because I'm a bit short and dumpy and can't got to short in the hemline. I'm so excited to get started thanks for the push!

  8. Thanks for letting me know about the sale! I'm pretty new to Washington DC, but I as I've been dying to try a simplicity pattern (3673) and I've never been to a joann's before, your blog entry motivated me to find the store, and I loved it! So thanks again.

  9. I just found your blog through the giveaway month thing on Sew Mama, Sew!

    I just HAD to comment:

I have had that New Look pattern for years now, and it is a favorite. I made the view with the two thin straps TWICE I loved it so much! The first was a sundress made of vintage sheets, and the second a nice dressy version that I wore to a wedding last year. Just sayin', it's a good one! Good luck!
