Granny Bag

Ta-da! It's finished - finito - complete - you get the idea. I lined it with brown cotton fabric (recycled from Ikea curtains) and added brown and white polka dotted pockets and a magnetic snap. I love this bag so much just for the outside layer but that polka dot does add an extra cute punch. I wanted to show you the inside, but I forgot to take pictures during this shoot and I'm afraid if I wait for another good opportunity to take a picture then you would be waiting a while for this post.

The bag is inspired by this bag from Anthropologie. I brought the bag with me to Easter brunch where I could show it off to my Mom and thank her again for teaching me how to crochet a granny square. She was really impressed with it. My middle sister, not so much. I like to think that this is because we have different tastes and that is ok by me. To each her own.

  1. What a beautiful bag. It reminds me of a pillow my grandmother had on her couch made of granny squares. I always loved that pillow. I never thought about making squares for a bag. I just might have to try this. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. The bag is gorgeous! I love the colors you used. My younger sister is not so impressed with my crocheting either. She sat on the couch next to my mother and I a few weeks ago when my mother taught me how to make my first granny square and my sister had zero interest. That's right. Zip. To each her own, right? :) Great job on the bag!

  6. I freaking LOVE this bag. I haven't crocheted before but I'm a knitter... was it hard to do? (The sewing up/finishing part??)
    Well done!

I think I might put up a little mini-tutorial on how to make the lining and put it all together. Is there interest in that?

  9. Love your bag! Just curious about the lining - is it a slightly "heavier" fabric.? In the pic, your bag doesn't look its sagging and I have such a bad habit of stuffing my purses. Tutorial would be fantastic! Again, fabulous job!
